Description
Zion Ponderosa Ranch and Resort – covering about 10,000 acres – is a unique, spectacular place that stands alone where Zion National Park touches the sky. They are dedicated to superior customer service in an area of environmentally sensitive high desert habitat – sharing with customers the understandings of land formations, water and wind erosion, and the wildlife that resides within these boundaries. A land made for all to enjoy and learn respect and understanding through multiple outdoor recreational activities.
The ranch resort’s wide range of activities include: mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, using a climbing wall, rifle shooting, archery, paintball, sports, swimming, and many more. Most of these activities are available to those who buy the limited recreation package, but many more are available – at no extra charge – as part of the all inclusive package. If these activities are not enough, they also offer a variety of other excursions like canyoneering, rodeo riding lessons, and rides on Harley Davidson motorcycles. After a long day of fun, visitors can enjoy a relaxing message at the spa. While you can do these things somewhere else, you can only do them in a place as beautiful as the area surrounding Zion National Park here at Zion Ponderosa Resort with its high mountain air filled with the scent of Ponderosa trees and sage. You will have an unforgettable experience for you and your family or friends.
Zion Ponderosa History Twenty years ago, Dave and Steve Neeleman realized that working together they could make their grandfather's dream come true. Ray Lewis, the Neeleman's grandfather, first came to the East Rim of Zion National Park after expressing a wish to buy a ranch. After prodding from his son-in-law, Gary Neeleman, the family jumped in the car on a whim and traveled to Utah from California to see 8,000 acres of land advertised in the Los Angeles Times.
It was love at first sight and Lewis was determined to muster up enough money to make the purchase. Soon after he signed the deed he found that the land was not conducive to ranching, but was the perfect place to unite friends and family. His dream quickly became one of true hospitality. He wished to share the land with as many friends and family as possible.
In the early 1990s the Neeleman brothers regained their grandfather's spirit of hospitality and opened a small campground called Brushy Cove on a remote section of their land. As the popularity of the campground grew they added restroom and shower facilities, a large fire pit with benches and group camping sites at Brushy Cove. The next step was opening their family lodge as a bed and breakfast and more friends came. Quickly, they realized that it was time to expand their facilities.
In 1994, while both brothers were working in the airline industry, Steve returned lost luggage to its owner who was staying at the Lone Eagle in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Upon first seeing the resort, Steve knew it was what he wanted to do with his family land. The Neelemans were granted permission to model their project after the Lone Eagle and the dream of the Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort began to take shape.
Construction of the first guest cabins started in the fall of 1994. The pole barn was also built to house the dining facilities and guest registration. Soon after, they added a swimming pool and shower house for their new campground closer to the resort center. Over the next few years Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort continued to develop. They added a staff lodge and additional guest cabins (bringing the total to 24). Finally, in 1998, the Neelemans realized it was time to make Zion Ponderosa a truly unique experience for its guests. They decided to make the ranch an all-inclusive experience, thereby allowing all guests to get out and do what they truly want, without having to worry about limitations on money. Guests pay one, great price for all of their food, lodging, and recreation experiences.
As the summer seasons arrived the Neeleman family saw more changes made to the resort. The large three-story Recreation Barn is home to the recreational equipment checkout, large meeting room, large screen television, indoor/outdoor 40-foot climbing wall, ping-pong tables, foosball tables, and much more. Activities have increased as well. ATVs, horses, paintball, archery, fishing, mountain biking, and many more activities keep everybody's daily schedule full of fun. In 2005 a beautiful swimming pool that has an infinity edge (waterfall) became the center of attraction. Also during the past three years Zion Ponderosa has expanded and complemented the dining area. They serve a variety of foods to match the hungry appetites of customers. Multi-bedroom homes are incredible. Overlooking vast canyons of Ponderosa trees and wilderness you truly feel inspired by the grandeur of view.
True hospitality and customer service can be found at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort. The all-inclusive resort is open spring, summer and fall, offering a diverse range of activities, for all members of the families that visit. It is a place to renew the sense of child in all of us, Zion Ponderosa Ranch and Resort, a place for everyone.
