Description
Papoose Creek Lodge is an eco lodge in South West Montana's upper Madison River Valley, 40 minutes from one of the nation's jewels, Yellowstone National Park.
Set among spruce and aspen woods, the log lodge comprises five guestrooms along with three spacious pioneer-style cabins. Papoose Creek meanders through the property, and a restful outdoor hot tub area beckons at the end of the day. Imaginative cuisine and an inspiring setting combine to offer a five-star experience.
At Papoose Creek Lodge you'll be introduced to some of the world's best fly fishing on the Blue Ribbon waters of the Madison, Gallatin, Henry's Fork and Yellowstone Rivers. Hiking, horseback riding, canoe excursions and wildlife watching also acquaint you with this spectacular region in the Big Sky state.
Whether you ride the range with seasoned wranglers, take a canoe trip with a gourmet picnic, or simply listen to the rustle of aspens from the wrap-around deck, you'll come away with a deeper appreciation of the Rocky Mountain landscape and the importance of the wilderness as a precious resource.
The dream of developing a new model for appropriate and sustainable tourism inspired Roger and Cindy Lang to establish Papoose Creek Lodge. Underlying their vision is the creation of a place where learning and active experiences impart sensitivity and appreciation for the land and local communities.
As proud as they are of their facility, programs, cuisine, and setting in the South Madison Valley, it is their highly competent and personable staff that will most impress you. The staff is made up of engaging people with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. You'll spend time with ecologists, veteran Montana guides, hospitality professionals, and expert instructors. Every one of them feels strong ties to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and their common love is sharing it with others. Guests most often comment on their appreciation for that rarest of qualities: a combination of world-class accommodations, service, and dining in a casual, comfortable and homey atmosphere.
Papoose Creek's Philosophy There are many lodges throughout the West with beautiful views of the mountains. However, Papoose Creek Lodge is an eco-tourism lodge, dedicated to fostering the natural and cultural environment. As such, Papoose Creek provides a unique experience for guests. They have created an intimate setting where exciting outdoor recreation and personalized learning provide for a meaningful vacation, fostering a sense of connection with nature.
Often, people ask: "What is an 'eco-lodge'?" "Eco" means house in ancient Greek, imparting a notion of taking care of one's house. Simply put, it means that they operate their guest lodge in a purposeful way that strives to preserve and enhance the natural, cultural and economic resources of the surrounding area.
A stay at Papoose Creek Lodge combines invigorating outdoor activities with engaging evening programs - such as naturalist presentations and showings of local artists and craftsmen - all designed to promote greater understanding of the land, wildlife and rural community about which they care so deeply. For it is through such enriched experiences that they hope guests will gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty and significance of the western landscape.
Just as importantly, they want Papoose Creek to be a lodge that guests can truly enjoy: a place that offers distinctive accommodations, fine food, an attentive staff and genuine hospitality. A place to savor active "Rocky Mountain" experiences of all sorts - from wonderful hiking and horseback riding to fly fishing and canoeing.
They invite you to join them for a delightful and stimulating visit. Papoose Creek Lodge is a true gem in the wilderness.
