Description
A Timeless, Super-Natural Adventure Spectacular mountain scenery, beaches, health spas and hot springs, and fishing for the unique Beardsley and Crescenti trout all began to draw travelers to the Olympic Peninsula in the 1890s. The Lake Crescent Lodge dates from 1916, when it was originally built as "Singer's Tavern" on the shore of deep blue Lake Crescent. You can still enjoy the ambience of a turn-of-the-century resort as you relax by the huge stone fireplace in the lobby, or watch a Lake Crescent sunset from the dining room or the "wicker cozy" sun porch. Enjoy one of the area’s best gift stores featuring native masks, clothing, jewelry, specialty foods and souvenirs.
From Lake Crescent Lodge you can enjoy all that Olympic National Park has to offer. From the lodge, short walks lead through old-growth forest to Marymere Falls and Storm King Mountain. Lake Crescent, a glacier-carved lake, offers fishing, boating or just a relaxing beach walk. The lodge is also convenient for day trips to Hurricane Ridge, a scenic drive from sea level through sub-alpine forests to meadows of wildflowers and views of glacier-clad peaks.
Drive west from the lodge to the Pacific Ocean, where Olympic National Park comprises over 60 miles of wild, unspoiled ocean beaches, perfect for exploring tidal pools or beachcombing near the seastacks. The western slopes of the Olympic Mountains harbor one of the best examples of old-growth temperate rainforests in North America. You can explore this unique old-growth forest by road and hiking trail. Some of the largest trees in the world grow here. The wildlife of Olympic National Park includes deer, black bears, the shy Roosevelt elks (named for President Theodore Roosevelt), the Olympic marmots, Olympic chipmunks and raccoons.
The lodge is located 20 miles west of Port Angeles, where guests enjoy daily ferry service to Victoria, British Columbia. A drive east from Port Angeles leads to scenic Port Townsend and ferry service to the San Juan Islands.
