Canoeing/Kayaking
Whether you spend an hour of paddling Isle Royale's harbors and inland lakes or spend the entire day fishing, both are favorite activities on the island. Isle Royale National Park offers spectacular paddling opportunities throughout. The archipelago's glacial and volcanic formation left dozens of small islands, coves, creeks and inland lakes for paddlers to explore. In addition to the scenery, the park's light visitation allows visitors to see an astounding variety of wildlife in a relatively undisturbed habitat.

Serious Fishing
For those of you who are serious about fishing, Isle Royale's guides can take you to the best places to fish the Lake Superior waters. Fresh trout, walleye, and perch are abundant in the streams and lake trout and salmon are the fish of choice in Lake Superior’s waters. Charter boats are fully equipped and fishing tackle is provided. Michigan fishing licenses are required and are sold at Rock Harbor Lodge and at Windigo. Daily licenses are available.

All Aboard for an Informational Talk
Activities in the Rock Harbor area include water tours aboard the MV Sandy, cultural interpretive programs, historical sightseeing and more! Isle Royale National Park provides an extensive list of interpretive tours and scenic boat cruises to different parts of the island including a historic lighthouse and commercial fishery. These activities focus on the flora and fauna of the island along with events of the island's colorful past.

Guided Hikes Through Isle Royale National Park
The park is a hikers paradise and includes more than 165 miles of foot trails for hiking, offering a variety of options for trip length and difficulty. Trails are generally well defined and easy to follow. Park rangers provide guided educational hikes giving you insight to this natural wonderland.

Visit Isle Royale's Historic Lighthouses
Isle Royale's historic lighthouses have served as pillars of light for over a century, helping ships and boats safely navigate the unpredictable swelling waters of Lake Superior. The Rock Lighthouse, built of stone and brick, was first lit in 1855. The Passage Island Lighthouse, built of fieldstone, has been guiding ships since 1882. The 117-foot Rock of Ages Lighthouse was completed in 1908. Tours to the many historic lighthouses is a popular activity while visiting the park.

Cruise the Waters of Island Royale
The waterways around Island Royale provide boaters with an aquatic Atlantis of interconnected inlets, bays, coves, and the sheer majesty of Lake Superior. Dock space can be found at Daisy Farm, Chippewa Harbor, Malone Bay, McCargoe Cove, Passage Island, Hidden Lake, Edisen Fishery, and Raspberry Island. Even if you don't have a boat, there are ferries and water taxis that will allow you to explore some of the more remote waters around Island Royale.
