Description
Welcome to the Evergreen Lodge, an historic Yosemite hotel nestled in the woods bordering Yosemite National Park. The resort offers a timeless Yosemite experience, including fully-furnished cabins, delicious food, a classic all-wood tavern, diverse recreational activities, expert advice and a warm, welcoming environment. Escape the crowds and come enjoy the serenity and mountain charm of this Yosemite hideaway.
History Since 1921, the Evergreen Lodge has been a vibrant part of the Yosemite landscape. The lodge was originally developed to facilitate building of the O'Shaunessey Dam in Hetch Hetchy Valley. In the early years, the lodge was a post office, restaurant, and general store, and at one time, moonshine was brewed in the basement and a brothel was run out of two of the cabins (look for the backdoors on the bedrooms!). In the old days, people would come from all over for weekend dances, ice cream at the soda fountain and to gather at the local watering hole. Fortunately, the Evergreen is still a meeting spot for all walks of life to come and enjoy these classic experiences, and you will be just as likely to enjoy the company of an international tourist as that of a Park Ranger, rock climber or local resident.
Philosophy The owners of Evergreen feel lucky to be stewards of such a special place and are committed to making sure the Evergreen continues to create lasting memories for another hundred years. Like any historic property, the elements and time have taken their toll on the lodge, so they recently renovated, upgraded and expanded the facilities (adding 50 new cabins in the woods) while working hard to maintain the timeless feel of the lodge. While certain traditions have become things of the past (like the brothel and poor shower pressure!), they are proud and excited that the Evergreen now offers an all-around lodging and guest experience that is unparalleled in the Yosemite area.
The resort's goal is to provide gracious and friendly service, quality products, private and communal settings, and a huge array of opportunities to help you experience first-hand the wonders of the Yosemite area. You will find many ways to create your ideal experience.
Simply stated, they want you to be blown away by your experience at the Evergreen and to be sad to leave. They hope you will return and become a regular part of the Evergreen tradition and family. And if you can't come back, they want the lodge to be a place you will always remember.
