What Cheer Saloon
The saloon's goal is to provide you with the most pleasurable saloon experience possible. They do this by providing the finest products and services available and by ensuring that you are treated with respect by every employee and by other patrons.
The What Cheer Saloon is the only full service bar in Columbia. They feature fine Cognacs, Armagnacs and single malt Scotches, as well as several of the best Sierra Nevada foothill wines. They always have local beers on tap and numerous foreign and domestic bottled beers. The Saloon also features an Espresso bar.
The beautiful cherry wood back bar has been the centerpiece of the saloon since its arrival in 1857. The back bar was constructed in the Boston area and then transported by ship "around the horn" to California. The bar (and the rest of the hotel) fell into disrepair before being beautifully refurbished by the California State Parks.
The trip around the tip of South America may have been the easy part of the journey. Getting materials from San Francisco or other ports to the Mother Lode was often the hard part. A boat trip to the Port of Stockton would be followed by an arduous trek by wagon to the "diggin's".
Stop by the saloon when you visit Columbia. When you do, ask for the house specialty, a "Columbia Gold". The ingredients are a trade secret, but it is the most asked for specialty libation. If you have more than one, take the stage home.
The What Cheer Saloon has a nightly food menu.
