Description
"Itself no longer a private house, Blantyre is perhaps an even better thing - a country-house hotel dispensing the kind of service, cuisine and décor that only luxury tempered by good taste can bring into being." - Architectural Digest, July 2004
History Built in 1902, this historic Tudor-style estate was modeled after the original family’s ancestral home in Blantyre, Scotland. During the “Gilded Age” it was used as a summer house and was host to many lavish garden parties and grand dinner dances. In 1980, Ann Fitzpatrick Brown, became the property’s seventh owner. After extensive renovation, Blantyre was reopened as a beautiful country house, recognized as one of the finest hotels in the world, where guests can come and stay and experience the life and service of a bygone era.
Guest Accommodations With its lovely leaded glass windows, richly burnished woods and luxurious fabrics, the inside of Blantyre is exactly what you would expect upon seeing the outside of the building. In the Main House, there are overstuffed chairs, fresh flowers, a light-filled music room, and rooms for private dining — all designed with the comfort of guests in mind. The estate’s 24 exquisite rooms, suites and cottages all have their own special character and are decorated with the fine fabrics and furnishings that have become the hallmark of Blantyre.
Activities and Fine Dining Set amidst 117 acres of lawns and woodlands, Blantyre offers activities for every season. In the winter there is snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on the estate’s grounds, as well as skating on their ice rink followed by warming drinks of rich hot chocolate. During warmer months championship bent grass croquet courts are available to guests along with professional instruction. The estate also has four Har-Tru tennis courts with private instruction, a heated outdoor swimming pool, an onsite fitness center, and an exclusive spa featuring massages and body treatments. Blantyre is host to an award winning restaurant featuring refined cuisine and an outstanding wine cellar.
An event in itself, dining at Blantyre is a memorable experience not to be missed.
